India will also have a big representation at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Several actors and influencers are set to make their debut this year. One of them is digital content creator Dolly Singh. She has already reached the French Riviera and will walk the red carpet today. She will also attend the official movie screening at the prestigious Grand Lumiere Theatre. In an exclusive chat with News18, Dolly revealed that the past one week has been a roller-coaster ride not only for her but also for her friends and family, who have been ‘a time to prepare, get everything right and make sure’ Got together’. She also gives us a hint of her outfit and talks about expecting some star-studded moments on the red carpet and watching the screening of Sunny Leone’s Kennedy. Excerpts:

What can you tell us about what you’re going to be wearing on the red carpet?

I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want people to think that he said so much but nothing worked. I’m just nervous. But I’ve done a lot of thinking. We put together mood boards and I was very specific about exactly what I wanted. I definitely wanted to showcase the Indian roots and silhouettes and pay homage to Bollywood in some way. I didn’t want to do anything western, especially for my first film. I wanted to represent the place where I come from. Since I’m a fashion girl, I was obsessed with Pinterest and pestering my stylist with all kinds of references. This is obviously very exciting. I have never had such a big moment where we have to prepare. My best friend Komal and I were discussing the same things. She told me, ‘After so many years, the fashion girl in you is ready to shine.’

Is there a particular movie you are looking forward to watching?

We are watching a movie. But what I really wanted to watch was an Anurag Kashyap film [Kennedy] It is being screened there because it is a proud moment for all of us. We were expecting to get tickets for him. But my fingers are still crossed and we’ll see if anything works out. I think anyway, it’s such a huge achievement for the films that are screened at Cannes and any film that you see, whether you know it or not, is going to be good and worth watching. In this sense, I am ready for everything. I have told my team that let’s get any screening done that we can do. We would love to get exclusive access and that would be amazing.

Earlier, only actors from the Indian film industry were invited to the film festival. But now, a lot of social media influencers and content creators have also hit the red carpet. What do you have to say about this paradigm shift?

I think this is a great opportunity for all of us. We all wanted to reach a big international stage like Cannes one day and represent our country. As a content creator, it makes me very proud to have my industry featured there. Girls like Masoom (Meenavala), Deepa (Bular Khosla) and Malavika (Sitlani) stepped out and really made us proud. He has already set the example and I am going to follow that. I want to message some of them and ask them for some suggestions on how things go. It really feels good that our industry has gained so much recognition now and considering that we are in a new profession, we are being accepted, seen and given these opportunities. We never thought this could happen. Since we are the first generation to do this, we do not know where it is going and what is going to happen tomorrow. But I am sure books will be written about this. It is very exciting to be among the first few people to make history. This is so unbelievable!

Niharika NM, Ruhi Dosani and Ranveer Allahabadia will also attend the Cannes Film Festival. Is it comforting to be around your friends and colleagues?

I am glad that many of them are leaving. We’ll have our own little community and family and no matter what happens, we’ll be there for each other. They are really cute. I was talking to Deepa that day about how to do it and how much time is needed for makeup and pictures. Everyone has been very helpful. It gives me some comfort that my people will be around me and if something happens, I can always count on them.

What else are you planning to do in the French Riviera?

I will attend the film festival for eight-nine days and then probably extend my trip for a much needed vacation. Cannes is obviously going to be fun but it will also be about pressure and nervousness. Once it is done and dusted, I can chill and eat (laughs).
