They will be kept at the center for a mandatory five-day observation period, after which they will be released in the area from where they were picked up. The cost of sterilization of each dog comes to Rs 1,000, but the RWA or residents will have to pay only Rs 250 per dog, with the rest of the cost being with the authority. This amount includes sterilization, vaccination and anti-rabies injections of stray dogs.
The mission is called ‘Project Bhairav’ and with this the authority aims to sterilize all stray dogs in the city. “The residents of Sector Omicron 2 had deposited Rs 2,500 for sterilization and vaccination of 10 stray dogs. These dogs have been released after sterilization and vaccination. The sterilized dogs are given a blue and pink leash around their neck, with a mark cut out in their ear. This will separate them from other dogs that have not yet been neutered,” said Salil Yadav From Public Health Department, GNIDA.
