The health minister made the remarks during Question Hour while replying to questions from various MLAs that some hospitals are having more doctors than their sanctioned strength and others are struggling to get the number of doctors they need.
To ensure that doctors attend their duties at their places of posting, the minister told the House that the government has abolished the “system of deputation” for doctors in the state.
The minister was referring to the temporary shifting of the employees to places other than their original postings.
Acknowledging the shortcomings of the posting policy of doctors, the minister said, “I have terminated the work arrangement or deputation after joining. There are some hurdles in this, we will remove them too.”
He said that doctors will have to work where they are posted now.
Acknowledging the imbalance in the sanctioned post and the number of doctors working in different hospitals, Meena admitted that in many hospitals 70 doctors are working instead of 40 and in some places 40 doctors are working instead of 20.
