‘doc’, Who Married 14 Women In 40 Yrs, Arrested In Capital | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: Police here on Monday arrested a fake doctor, who allegedly married 14 women in different states and duped them of lakhs of rupees. He was identified as Ramesh Chandra Swain of Patkura in Kendrapada district.
Police arrested him on the basis of a complaint lodged by a Delhi-based woman, with whom Ramesh tied the knot in 2018 and they had been living together in Bhubaneswar. The woman suspected that Ramesh was already married and thus lodged a complaint against him in Mahila police station here after which police cracked the case and unravelled his past.
“We came to know that he was not a doctor. He was mainly luring the women from high society, working women, divorcees, who were looking for prospective grooms in matrimonial sites. He was giving unmarried status in the sites and was identifying himself as deputy director general of ministry of health and family welfare, said DCP Uma Shankar Das,
Ramesh in fact had got married in 1982 and by 2002, he had married another woman. Between 2002 and 2022, he tied the knot with 12 more. So far, police have been able to trace nine women, who married Ramesh. He has three sons from the first marriage, police said. He was mostly staying in Guwahati and was operating from there. He was changing places to select women to marry to hoodwink police and people, the police said.
Ramesh also duped many aspirants of crores of rupees promising them admission to MBBS courses. He was sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
