‘Do Something Different and…’: Kejriwal’s Last-Ditch Attempt To Woo Gujarat Voters in Second Phase

As Gujarat goes to polls in the second phase of 93 seats, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal is making a last-ditch effort to woo voters. In a tweet on Monday, Kejriwal urged the people of Gujarat to ‘do something different’.

Arvind Kejriwal said in a tweet on Monday, “Voting is going on in 93 seats of Gujarat today in the second phase. My appeal to all the voters- This election is the election of new hopes and aspirations of Gujarat. It is a great occasion that has come after decades. Looking towards the future, do come and vote for the progress of Gujarat, this time do something different and wonderful.”

Like Kejriwal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday appealed to people to vote in large numbers in the second phase of the Gujarat assembly elections and in several bypolls across the country.

Voting began on Monday in 93 assembly seats in 14 central and northern districts of Gujarat during the second phase of polling in the state. In the 2017 assembly elections, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 51 seats, the Congress won 39, while three went to independent candidates.

In central Gujarat, the BJP won 37 seats, the Congress 22. But in North Gujarat, the Congress won 17 seats, while the saffron party got 14.

High-voltage campaigning by various parties for the second phase of polling came to an end on Saturday evening.

The first phase of polling for 89 seats in Saurashtra, Kutch and South Gujarat regions was held on December 1, when the average voter turnout was recorded at 63.31 per cent. There are a total of 182 seats in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly.
