New Delhi: The UP police on Monday gunned down one of the accused in the sensational murder of Umesh Pal – the key witness in the 2005 murder case of then BSP MLA Raju Pal – in an encounter here. Atiq Ahmed and his brother Khalid Azim are accused in the Rajupal murder case. On February 24 (Friday), Umesh Pal was murdered in broad daylight in Dhumanganj area of ​​Prayagraj. Seven attackers hurled bombs at him and fired countless bullets. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly witnessed din on Saturday as Leader of the Opposition Akhilesh Yadav tried to corner the state government over his killing, prompting a sharp retort from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The police action comes after UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said during the UP assembly session that his government would “mita degi” (turn them to dust) the mafia. The police claimed that when the accused opened fire on them, they retaliated. He said that a police officer was injured during the encounter.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Navendu Kumar later shared that Arbaaz, the driver of the white SUV used by the assailants to attack witness Umesh Pal, was surrounded by police teams following an intelligence input.

The UP police has also made a big disclosure in the Umesh Pal murder case. It has been said that not six but thirteen shooters were involved in the murder of Umeshpal in Prayagraj. Seven shooters were ready for backup.

It also revealed that Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf, who were lodged in Sabarmati Jail, had played an important role in the conspiracy to kill Umeshpal.
