DNA Exclusive: MEA e-mail server hacked – biggest ever cyber-attack in India

A big threat to national security, recently the e-mail server of the Ministry of External Affairs was hacked, revealed in the exclusive investigation of Zee News. Obviously, the hack is the biggest ever cyber attack on the national security of the country. The Ministry of External Affairs has also confirmed the security breach.

A hacker operating on the dark web hacked the e-mail server of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Secret e-mails of the Ministry of External Affairs are now available for ‘sale’ on the dark web.

E-mail IDs and passwords of at least 15 senior ministry officials have been leaked on the dark-web.

– Data from the Ministry of External Affairs is available for sale between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 22 lakh.

Central agencies have started a detailed investigation into the matter.

Zee News journalist Shivank Mishra asked the value of the data of the Ministry of External Affairs. The hackers quoted Rs 21.80 lakh for complete access to the website. Hackers demanded Rs 6 lakh for confidential e-mail ID data. The hackers claimed that they had access to 25 GB of data from the Ministry of External Affairs.

The hacker also shared email conversations between senior ministry officials and their counterparts in foreign countries. Later, Zee News in its investigation found that the hacker was most likely operating from North Korea.
