New DelhiFollowing violent clashes in Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal on Ram Navami, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory to all states and union territories to maintain law and order, ensure peaceful conduct of Hanuman Jayanti festival. Security has been tightened in Jahangirpuri ahead of Hanuman Jayanti in Delhi.

In today’s DNA, Zee News’ Rohit Ranjan discusses the aftermath of the Ram Navami violence in West Bengal and the security measures suggested by the Calcutta High Court to the Mamata Banerjee government.

After violent clashes in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appealed for peace in the state. The Calcutta High Court had sought information from the West Bengal government on the violence, following which the state government submitted its report. The High Court then directed the Bengal government to arrange for suitable security measures along the route of the religious processions.

The court also said that if there is a shortage of policemen, security forces should be sought from the Centre. Before Hanuman Jayanti, the High Court has asked CM Mamata Banerjee to inform about the security arrangements made for the festival.

Banerjee’s government said that if law and order is broken during the processions, then the organizers will be responsible for it. Also, there will be no barricading on the entire route of the procession, but only in sensitive areas. The organizers will have to inform the administration about their procession.

The West Bengal government on Wednesday decided to deploy paramilitary forces during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in three districts of Hooghly, Barrackpore and Kolkata to prevent any incidents of violence or minor clashes during the festivities.
