Rallies to be held in all 72 party districts for three days from May 7, the second anniversary of the state government

The ruling DMK will hold rallies across Tamil Nadu from May 7 as part of the state government’s second anniversary celebrations.

The party leadership highlighted the achievements of the government as well as the Factory Amendment Act, BJP State President K.K. The rallies have been decided to counter the recent controversies over the allegations of corruption leveled by Annamalai, the announcement of liquor license in the convention hall. Management of parties and inefficiency of some ministers.

Rallies will be held in all 72 party districts for three days from May 7, the second anniversary of the state government.

It may be noted that even allies of the DMK government came out against the government over the Factory Act amendment, which led to 12 working hours in select industries. Chief Minister Stalin rescinded the amendment on May 1 (International Labor Day) and retained the old system of working eight hours.

However, the DMK has realized that the amendments to the bill have caused severe backlash from the public including its allies. The major Dalit political parties, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), CPI(M) and CPI came out against the amendment.

The Congress, which is also an ally of the DMK in Tamil Nadu, walked out of the Legislative Assembly when the Bill was introduced.

The move, which announced that liquor would be served in convention halls during functions for taking temporary licences, has also drawn a major backlash from the move. Several political parties and social organizations have come against the government’s decision, due to which the government hastily backtracked.

DMK’s organizing secretary and senior leader and minister S. Duraimurugan will be in charge of the campaign across the state. Party leaders told IANS that the speakers and district level coordinators would be announced in a few days.

The DMK party is gearing up for this massive exercise to boost the morale of the rank and file and energize its hardline cadres ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
