COIMBATORE: People, who are angry at the DMK government in Tamil Nadu, are ready to support the AIADMK in the upcoming urban local body election, AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam said on Thursday. He said the DMK had betrayed the voters by giving them around 500 false polls promises ahead of the 2021 assembly elections.
While addressing the party cadre at a meeting in Sivananda Colony in Coimbatore, OPS said the AIADMK had provided development for a 50-year-period within 10 years of its regime. “Because of a small slip, we lost in the 2021 assembly election, and it was naturally restored now as the people in Tamil Nadu have started to compare the AIADMK and DMK governments. During the AIADMK regime, we implemented a lot of schemes for people’s welfare. The DMK gave around 500 false polls promises and came to power,” said Panneerselvam.
He added that during the AIADMK regime, the government had given quality Pongal gift hampers with cash gifts of Rs 2,500 to each ration card holder. Recently, the DMK government provided poor quality Pongal gift hampers which had been procured from north India for swindling people’s money. Adulterated products like pepper with papaya seeds had been distributed to the public in Tamil Nadu, he added.
Former municipal administration minister SP Velumani said that Coimbatore district “is the fort of the AIADMK.” The AIADMK government had implemented many projects for the development of Coimbatore and the state in the last ten years regime. After the DMK came to power, nothing had happened in Coimbatore and other parts of the state, he added.
“We brought various development projects, including the elevated expressway, an integrated bus stands at Vellalorethe Western Ring Road and various drinking water projects, six government arts colleges and others. After the DMK came to power, the projects are slowing down in Coimbatore. We should approach the voters by explaining the projects implemented by us in Coimbatore. The DMK is planning to use its muscle and money power. They are getting ready to distribute money and silver anklets to voters,” said Velumani.
He alleged that police were working like members of the DMK party. “They should understand that the situation will change at any time,” he added.
