Diwali festive sales break 10-year record of Rs 1.25 lakh crore: CAIT

After a year of melodious Diwali celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, festival-goers thronged this year for festive shopping, helping to generate a turnover of Rs 1.25 trillion. Business Standard reported that according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), this trade figure broke the sales record of the last 10 years on Diwali.

The trader’s body representing around 70 million traders said the incredible Diwali 2021 sales ended the economic slowdown that has been going on for the past two years.

Kat said that buoyed by the phenomenal Diwali business, traders are now gearing themselves up for the wedding season, which is scheduled to begin from November 14.

CAIT National President BC Bhartia and General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal said: “In this year’s Diwali festival, the entire country has an estimated turnover of around Rs 1.25 lakh crore which is a record figure so far in the last decade. In Delhi alone, this business was about Rs 25,000 crore.

He said that this time no Chinese goods were sold and customers insisted on buying goods made in India. Due to this buying trend, China suffered a business loss of more than Rs 50,000 crore.

As far as gold jewelery and silverware are concerned, sales of Rs 9,000 crore were made during Diwali 2021. Additionally, packaging items worth Rs 15,000 crore were sold this year.
