A Gujarat court last month convicted Rahul Gandhi in a criminal defamation case relating to the surname ‘Modi’ and leading to his disqualification as an MP.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was recently disqualified as a Member of Parliament following his conviction in a defamation case, is set to vacate his official Delhi residence on Saturday.

According to media reports, all the belongings of the former MP have been taken and most of them will be taken to the house of his mother and veteran Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

His luggage has already been shifted from his official residence to his mother Sonia Gandhi’s house at 10 Janpath Delhi, news agency PTI reported. Quoting sources, the agency has reported that Gandhi will hand over the 12, Tughlaq Lane bungalow to the Lok Sabha Secretariat today.

Former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi has been living in the bungalow for almost two decades. Last week, he reportedly shifted his office and some personal belongings from the bungalow to the official residence of his mother Sonia Gandhi.

PTI quoted sources as saying that Gandhi moved in with his mother and Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi at her 10, Janpath residence.

Last month, a Gujarat court convicted Gandhi in a criminal defamation case related to the surname ‘Modi’ and later sentenced him to two years in prison.

His conviction in the case resulted in his disqualification, following which the Lok Sabha Secretariat sent a notice to Gandhi to vacate the premises by 22 April.

The Congress leader had challenged the magistrate court’s order in the sessions court in Surat, which had rejected his appeal to set aside the sentence.
