Disney to release Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story in India on December 10

Walt Disney Studios will release West Side Story, directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg, in India on December 10.

“Disney India from 20th Century Studios will release West Side Story in cinemas on December 10, 2021,” the makers said in a statement.

Starring Rachel Ziegler and Ansel Elgort, the film is a romantic musical drama. It is a film adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name by Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. The Broadway musical is based on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It also stars Mike Faust, Josh Andres Rivera, Anna Isabel, Corey Stoll and Brian D’Arcy James.

Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution last week announced plans for special theater release windows for the remainder of its 2021 films. Disney has said that the remaining films in its 2021 slate will be released exclusively in theaters before being released on its streaming platform Disney+.

Karim Daniel, President of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, said: “Following the tremendous box office success of our summer films, which included five of the top eight domestic releases of the year, we are looking to update our theatrical plans for the remainder of 2021. Excited for.” said in a statement.

“As film viewing confidence continues to grow, we look forward to entertaining audiences in theaters while maintaining the flexibility to gift our Disney+ customers the gift of Encanto this holiday season,” Daniels said.

West Side Story, along with Disney’s other scheduled releases, will have a minimum 45-day special theatrical release, it said. These films include The Last Duel to be released on 15 October 2021, Ron’s Gone Wrong on 22 October 2021, Eternal on 5 November 2021 and The King’s Man on 22 December 2021.
