The encounter of the accused in the Disha rape and murder case in Hyderabad, Telangana has been termed as fake by the Supreme Court commission. Along with this, the policemen involved in the case have been recommended for trial. The Sirpurkar Commission, which probed the matter, has filed a report in the Supreme Court. According to this report, the alleged four accused in the Disha rape case were fake encounters.

After this, the court ordered a probe into the matter by forming a panel headed by Justice VS Sirpurkar, a former Supreme Court judge. Apart from him, Justice Rekha Baldota, retired judge of Bombay High Court and former CBI director Karthikeyan were also involved in this commission.

A 26-year-old veterinary doctor, who was waiting near a toll plaza, was raped and murdered after her two-wheeler’s tire was punctured on November 27, 2019, in Shamshabad, near Hyderabad. The burnt body of the doctor was found the next morning.

All of them were truck drivers and cleaners, who had harassed the doctor for 7 hours after consuming alcohol. After this the victim was burnt on the outskirts of Shadnagar. The matter was criticized across the country. Taking action in this incident, the police arrested four people. After this, on December 6 of the same year, the four accused were killed in an encounter at the crime scene near Shadnagar. This is called Disha Encounter.

These accused were involved
Actually, the police named her Disha because the identity of the victim was not revealed. The accused included the main accused Mohd Arif alias Ahmed, Jollu Shiva, Chintakuntala Chennakeshavulu, Jollu Naveen. Arif was 26 years old, while the rest of the accused were said to be 20 years old.

Meanwhile, the accused started trying to escape by snatching their weapons, due to which this encounter took place in defense. The incident sparked anger from human rights activists, who had approached the Supreme Court.

The accused were in our custody. The accused told during interrogation that after the murder they had thrown the doctor’s mobile phone in the bushes. After this, at 5:45 am on Friday (December 6), the four accused were brought to the same place where the doctor’s body was burnt. The police did not go there to recreate the crime scene, but to find the victim’s mobile phone. The accused were in a bus. He was accompanied by 10 policemen. On the spot, we were searching the victim’s phone and other items, when the accused first attacked the police party with sticks and stones. After this two accused Arif and Chintakunta snatched the weapons of our two officers and started firing. The police party exercised restraint. He was repeatedly asked to surrender. But they did not obey. This was followed by retaliatory firing. When the firing stopped after 15 minutes, when the policemen saw that the accused had died. He had been shot. All this happened between 5:45 am to 6:15 am. We have recovered the doctor’s mobile phone, power bank and wrist watch from the spot.

Slogans of DCP-ACP Zindabad were raised at the spot

A huge crowd had gathered at the place where the police had done the encounter of the four accused. People raised slogans of DCP-ACP Zindabad and Bharat Mata ki Jai. At the same time, people showered flowers on the policemen, then bathed the pictures of Sajjanar with milk. Telangana Law Minister A Indrakaran Reddy said- God punished the accused before the law.
