HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court-appointed commission to inquire into the alleged encounter killing of Disha rape and murder case accused has submitted its report before the apex court. The commission had held hearings for 47 days last year and examined 57 witnesses.
The commission submitted its report to the court on January 28, secretary of the inquiry panel S Shashidhar Reddy said.
On December 12, 2019, the apex court appointed the three-member commission of inquiry (CoI) under the chairmanship of former SC judge VS Sirpurkar with former judge of Bombay high court RP Sondur Baldota and former CBI director DR Karthikeyan as its members inquire to into the circumstances under which four accused were killed in an alleged exchange of fire while they were in police custody at Chattanpally on December 6, 2019.
The CoI was appointed following a writ petition by SC advocate GS Mani and others.
“The inquiry commission report is submitted to the SC in a sealed cover. The court has to now set a date for hearing,” Mani said.
Advocate PV Krishnamachari, representing the families of the four accused, said they were hopeful of the report bringing out the truth.
The inquiry was delayed due to the pandemic and the commission finally began the public hearings from August 21, 2021, and concluded it on November 15, amid Covid-19 restrictions. Justice Sirpurkar collected investigation records, forensic and PME reports, photos and videos of the alleged encounter site during the hearings. The commission had also inspected various places associated with the alleged encounter on December 5 last year.
