Discussion in all-party meeting on inflation, ‘unparliamentary words’ and Agneepath controversy, Congress raised questions on PM’s absence

An all-party meeting was convened on Sunday ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, where the opposition raised several issues including price rise, controversy over ‘unparliamentary words’ and demanded withdrawal of the Agneepath recruitment scheme.

Congress expressed strong objection to the absence of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi From the meeting called by the government, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh questioned the Prime Minister’s absence from the meeting.

“The all-party meeting to discuss the upcoming session of Parliament has just begun and the Prime Minister is absent as usual,” he said on Twitter. “Isn’t this unparliamentary,” asked Ramesh.

It is customary to call and organize a meeting by the Prime Minister for the smooth conduct of the session.

The Congress leader also attacked the government regarding the Forest Rights Act. “At the all-party meeting today, several political parties, including those supporting the NDA, pointed to the contradiction in the Modi government of claiming credit for their presidential candidate on the one hand and scrapping the Forest Rights Act, 2006 on the other!” Jairam Ramesh joined

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that 45 political parties were invited for the meeting, in which 36 parties participated.

“We invited 45 political parties, out of which 36 participated in the all-party meeting. 36 leaders gave their views, gave suggestions and demanded discussion with the government on some issues. The government is ready to discuss any issue in Parliament.

Leaders of various parties attended a meeting called by the government in the Parliament House Annex to discuss the issues to be raised during the monsoon session and sought their cooperation for smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh presided over the meeting, while Parliamentary Affairs Ministers Pralhad Joshi, Arjun Meghwal and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal were also present. The Congress was represented in the meeting by Mallikarjun Kharge, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Jairam Ramesh. The monsoon session of Parliament will begin on July 18 and end on August 12.
