‘Disappointed with Sanju Samson’ does well in one match and then does nothing’

Under the leadership of Sanju Samson, Rajasthan Royals reached the final of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League but the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is still finding it difficult to cement his place in the Indian T20 squad. With players like Dinesh Karthik and Ishan Kishan On the field, and with Rishabh Pant handling both the keeping and captaincy responsibilities, it appears quite difficult for Samson to secure a berth in the T20I squad.

Talking about Samson and his performance, India’s 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev expressed his disappointment. The cricket legend also talked about the player best suited to handle the responsibilities of the wicketkeeper-batsman.

Kapil believes that all wicketkeepers are almost the same and are capable of playing match-winning innings. As far as wicketkeeping is concerned, he feels that Wriddhiman Sahas is better than Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Dinesh Karthik. However, he does not forget to mention that all four are better than Saha in terms of batting.

I am disappointed with Sanju Samson. He is so talented. He does well in one or two games and then does nothing. If we talk about consistency in the current times, then Dinesh Karthik is at the forefront. I think Ishan Kishan has come under pressure. Maybe it’s the pressure of the high price it got IPL auction. I never got that much money so I won’t be able to say no,” Kapil Dev said in the discussion on Uncut.

In the recently concluded IPL season, Rajasthan Royals captain Samson scored 458 runs from 17 matches. His strike rate in IPL 2022 has been an impressive 146.79. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik displayed a formidable brand of cricket as he scored 330 runs at a strike rate of 183.33. And Karthik’s stellar performance in IPL 2022 helped him come back to the international T20I circuit after a gap of three years.

In the second T20I of the ongoing series between India And for South Africa, Karthik played a quick innings of 30 runs in 21 balls. But his loud knock eventually proved irrelevant as the Proteas won the match by four wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

India made a strong comeback after winning the third match of the series by 48 runs on Tuesday.
