Team India faced a crushing defeat on the third day of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India’s abysmal batting collapse in the third innings played a major role in the outcome of the match. Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar lashed out at skipper Rohit Sharma for his tactics on the second day of the match. Manjrekar criticized Rohit’s questionable decision of sending all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Shreyas Iyer.

speaking on the star Play At the end of the second day’s play, Manjrekar suggested that Rohit’s ploy of sending Jadeja ahead of Iyer did not make sense.

“It disappointed me last and also in this innings that Jadeja got ahead of Shreyas Iyer. You cannot do this for left-right combination. You have got a good batsman, even if he is a right-handed batsman. Jadeja coming in as a left arm batsman, I can understand when you have 2-3 left arm spinners like in Bangladesh. Here you have two excellent off-spinners bowling. I didn’t mean anything. Iyer has a great feel for the spinners so you want him up front in the line-up. And he has shown his class,” Manjrekar was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

Along with Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli In the line-up, Shreyas Iyer usually bats at number five in the batting order. However, Ravindra Jadeja, who is in red-hot form, was sent ahead of Iyer in both the innings. The ploy of promoting Jadeja up the batting order did not work as the southpaw flopped with the bat.

Moreover, the Indian batsman looked completely helpless against Nathan Lyon as he took a record eight wickets in the match. Only Pujara managed to put up some fight and scored a brilliant half-century.

On the third day of the Indore Test match, Australia’s chase of 76 started on the worst possible note as Usman Khawaja was dismissed early. But Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the ship and hit back at India’s spinners. The visiting team eventually chased down the target with nine wickets to spare. Now, Australia will look to salvage the four-match Test series in the fourth match to be played in Ahmedabad from March 9.
