Anupam Kher and Nupur Sharma

Hours after Supreme Court reprimanded suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her controversial remarks against Prophet Muhammad, Bollywood actor Anupam Kheri Took to his social media handle to share a cryptic tweet. The top court convicted Nupur, saying she had a “loose tongue” and “she alone was responsible for what was happening in the country”. The court also said that the remarks were made either for cheap publicity, political agenda or for some nefarious activities.

“She really has a loose tongue and has made all kinds of irresponsible statements on TV and has set the entire nation on fire. Still, she claims to be a 10 year old lawyer… she should be quick to point out her comments. Should have apologized to the entire country,” the court said.

After the court’s comments, Kher tweeted, “Your honour! Do something respectful about your honour!”

While it was not clear whether the actor had commented against the court regarding Nupur Sharma, the tweet attracted a lot of attention from users supporting the suspended BJP spokesperson. “True lines…!” One user wrote. Another said, “It’s a dark day in the history of judiciary in India. The last hope of democracy died a shameful death today. #SupremeCourtOfIndia #SupremeCourtIsCompromised. We are today as a nation ashamed that we will ever give justice Nupur Sharma controversy.

Supreme Court on Nupur Sharma

The apex court came down heavily on Sharma, saying, “His loose tongue has set the entire country on fire.” “Their ejaculation is responsible for the unfortunate incident in Udaipur,” the bench said. The Supreme Court, while hearing Nupur Sharma’s plea to register an FIR on her remarks, said, “What is the function of a TV channel to discuss this matter, which is under consideration, apart from promoting an agenda?”

While refusing to entertain Nupur Sharma’s plea to add to the FIRs lodged in different states for remarks, a vacation bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice JB Pardiwala allowed him to withdraw the petition. “These comments are very disturbing and smell of arrogance. What is his business of making comments like this? These remarks have led to unfortunate incidents in the country…These people are not religious. They have no respect for other religions. These comments were made for cheap publicity or for political agenda or some other nefarious activities”, the bench said during the hearing.
