Dhiraj Malhotra Resigns as BCCI General Manager

BCCI’s general manager for game development Dhiraj Malhotra has resigned from the post and IPL franchise Delhi Capitals is likely to move back.

A BCCI official confirmed the development PTI,

“He tendered his resignation in the first week of January,” the official said.

Malhotra was appointed by the BCCI in February last year as a replacement for former India player and selector Saba Karim.

He has served as the CEO of Delhi Capitals and may return to the franchise in a bigger role, it is learned.

Malhotra has also held senior positions in the International Cricket Council.

Meanwhile, as per the revised schedule prepared by the BCCI, the league phase of Ranji Trophy is to be held from February 16 to March 5. The format has been changed and there will be eight groups of four teams with six teams in the plate group.

There has been no red ball cricket in India since the Ranji Trophy final in March 2020.

Possible venues for the 38-team event are Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Cuttack, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad and Rajkot. Domestic cricketers, who were compensated for the cancellation of the Ranji Trophy last season, were delighted when BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced last week that the red-ball event would be held in two phases.

The knockouts will take place in June.
