Dharwad: libraries Play an important role in the life of every student. Dharwad, which has emerged as the hub of 24×7 library, is now attracting students. There are 100 libraries which run 24×7 for the benefit of students in the district. There are about 20 to 25 such libraries within a radius of 2 km. Saptapur And Basavanagar in Dharwad.
Dharwad is also known as Vidyakashi In North Karnataka Region, where many students from backward districts including Ballari, Raichur, Bagalkot and Vijayapura come to study, as many coaching centers offer various courses to prepare candidates to face IAS, KAS, PSI and other competitive exams and provide coaching. For the convenience of the students, many people have now introduced the 24X7 library concept, to enable aspirants preparing for competitive exams to study for long hours day and night.
According to the sources of the Library Association, there are 100 libraries in Dharwad district. Earlier, students trying to clear competitive examinations studied in gardens, under trees, in temples and on college campuses. Now they are turning to 24×7 libraries. About 20,000-30,000 students are enrolled in libraries.
Each 24X4 library has separate boys and girls sections, WiFi, drinking water, English and Kannada newspapers and magazines and books for preparation of competitive exams. In each library, at least 100- 200 students have registered their names to avail this facility. Sources said that a fee ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 700 is charged every month from every student who wants to become a member of the library 24×7.
24×7 Library Association of Dharwad president Ravindra Kamaladini told TOI that the concept first started in Delhi, and has now moved to Dharwad. “I have opened a 24×7 library to help students crack competitive exams by reading books in a pleasant environment without any disturbance. Earlier students used to study at KUD campus, parks, Ulvi Channabasavere temple complex and other places. Due to climate and noise pollution students have become members of libraries.
Shobha, who runs a 24×7 library in Srinagar in Dharwad, as well as many students is of the opinion that these libraries are the best places to study to face competitive exams. As a result, there is a huge demand for 24X7 libraries in the city.
Yallappa Shilavant, a KSRP personnel from Bagalkot, said, “A 24×7 library has helped me crack the written exam and get a job in KSRP. Every aspirant who aspire to be successful in competitive exams must use it.”
“Studying at home or elsewhere won’t help much, but studying in libraries 24X7 will motivate us to study longer to crack competitive exams,” said Rekha C, Civil Police personnel from Yadgir.
