Celebrated veteran actor Dharmendra is marking his 88th birthday today, on December 8. As is the tradition, a huge number of fans gathered at Dharmendra’s residence in Juhu to wish him on his special day. Sunny Deol, his son, joined him for a photo as they together cut a grand 7-tier birthday cake outside their house.

The massive cake, a special gesture from Dharmendra Ek Anmol Ratan International Fan Club, featured the actor’s photos and colourful, edible roses. The photos of Dharmendra joyfully cutting the cake are going viral on the internet.

On his birthday today, he is receiving heartfelt birthday wishes from fans and family. The first to extend her wishes was Ahana Deol, Dharmendra’s younger daughter with actor Hema Malini. Taking to Instagram, she shared a photo with her dad at midnight and wrote, “Happy birthday to my first love. The strongest & most loving man I know.”

Esha Deol’s post read, “Happy birthday my darling papa ♥️ love you.. I pray for you to always be happy, healthy & strong ♥️ I just love you so much @aapkadharam #happybirthday #fatherdaughter #happybirthdaydharmendra #loveyou #gratitude ♥️.”

From breathing life into every character to evoking emotions, Bollywood’s “He-man” reined the Hindi film industry back in the 1970s and 1980s. But apart from films and hard-hitting dialogues in them, Dharmendra also made headlines for his love life.

The Deols have had a fantastic year. Dharmendra graced the screen in the movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, and Sunny Deol made box office history with Gadar 2. Sunny’s younger son, Rajveer Deol, marked his Bollywood debut with Rajshri Productions’ film, Dono. That apart, Bobby Deol has been garnering much praise for his portrayal as a villain in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal.

Dharmendra was married to Prakash Kaur in 1954. The couple shares four children together — Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta, and Ajeta Deol out of whom Sunny and Bobby Deol are actors. But after almost 30 years of marriage, Dharmendra found his “dream girl” who was Hema Malini.
