Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday attended the All India Conference of Police Officers in Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 57th All India Conference of Directors General (DG) and Inspector General (IG) of Police in Delhi on Sunday. Modi called for scrapping of outdated criminal laws and setting standards for police organizations in states. The PM suggested to make police forces more sensitive and train them in new techniques. Also said that there is a need to further strengthen the traditional policing system like foot patrolling.

In the conference, PM Modi talked about strengthening the security along the borders along the coasts.

Modi stressed on increasing collaboration between state police and central agencies to leverage capabilities and share best practices. Prime Minister discussed strengthening of coastal security along the border with frequent visits of officials.

A future strategy for national security was prepared in the conference. About 350 senior police officers of the country including DGP, IG level of states and union territories also participated in it.

The three-day conference was held in a hybrid format on Friday at the National Agricultural Science Complex in Delhi. Home Minister Amit Shah presided over the first day of the conference. During this, he said that India is stronger, safer and in a better condition under the leadership of PM Modi.

Where has the event been held so far
Earlier in 2021 this conference was organized in hybrid mode in Lucknow, while in 2020 it was organized virtually during Kovid-19. Apart from this, it has been organized in Pune in 2019, BSF Academy in Tekanpur in 2017, National Police Academy in Hyderabad in 2016, Rann of Kutch in 2015, Guwahati in 2014.

Tell that till 2013 the annual meeting of this conference was held in Delhi. When the Modi government came to power in 2014, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Intelligence Bureau decided to organize the event outside the capital.

Not focused only on national security matters
Since 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been taking keen interest in the conference of DGPs and IGPs. Before the Modi government, discussions largely focused only on matters of national security. An official said that since 2014, these conferences mainly focused on issues like national security as well as crime control and identification of criminals, community policing, law and order, improving the image of the police.
