Deuba discusses India-Nepal border issue with Modi, demands bilateral arrangement

new Delhi: Nepal Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday insisted on discussing the border issue with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, saying he urged the East to resolve it through establishment of a bilateral mechanism.

Deuba, who issued a joint statement with Prime Minister Modi in Delhi, said Nepal’s relations with India are very important.

He also praised the progress being made by India under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.

Deuba said, “We have seen effective management of India battling Covid-19 and have received primary vaccine support from India as well as medicines, medical equipment and logistics to deal with it.”

“I really admire your love and affection for Nepal and the Nepalese people and my visit today will further strengthen these innate feelings,” he said.

Deuba, who arrived in New Delhi on Friday afternoon on a three-day visit to India, further said that he and Prime Minister Modi had friendly talks and fruitful discussions on various aspects of relations between the two sides.

“We shared our vision on further strengthening our friendly ties,” he said.

Nepal’s Prime Minister talks about the border issue between the two countries, as he said: “We discussed the border issue and I urged PM Modi to resolve it through establishment of a bilateral mechanism”, PTI told.

Prime Minister Modi, on his part, said that India has been a firm partner in Nepal’s journey of peace, prosperity and development.

Deuba ji is an old friend of India. As Prime Minister, this is his fifth visit to India. He has played an important role in developing India-Nepal relations: PM Modi

“The friendship between India and Nepal, the relationship between our peoples – such an example cannot be seen anywhere else in the world,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi said that they have agreed to give priority to trade and cross-border connectivity initiatives between the two countries.

Emphasizing that “our joint approach on power cooperation will prove to be the blueprint for future cooperation”, Prime Minister Modi said: “We discussed various aspects of our cooperation, reviewed the progress of various projects And also discussed future blueprints.”

“We both agree that we should take advantage of opportunities for cooperation in the power sector,” he said.
