Till now, passengers booking tickets through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) had to fill in the destination address. The Indian Railways was also maintaining a record of the destination address of all the passengers who booked tickets on the IRCTC website. This column has now been removed for the pleasure of the passengers.
The destination address column posed major hurdles for travelers. For example- If one was traveling for work in another city, he/she was required to fill in the Destination Address column. However, if the person did not have a destination address, filling out the column became a problem; Not to mention how long it was going to take.
The provision of filling the destination address was made on the website of IRCTC on May 13, 2020, so that the passengers can be traced in case of subsequent COVID infection. Railway spokesperson RD Bajpai had then announced that filling the destination address would be a permanent feature in future.
Railways is taking late steps for the convenience of the passengers. Some of the notable steps are helping passengers to generate PAN and Aadhar cards at railway stations. Passengers will also be provided with the facility to recharge their phones and pay electricity bills.
RailTel will soon set up kiosks like Common Service Center for successful implementation of these steps. These kiosks will be called Railwire Saathi Kiosks. Apart from these facilities, assistance will also be provided to the passengers in filling tax, voter card, banking, insurance, income tax, bus and air tickets.
