Senior Advisor, Medical Department at Shri Ganga Ram Hospital said on Tuesday that the dengue situation in Delhi has worsened this year as compared to last year.

Talking to news agency ANI, Pooja Khosla, Senior Consultant, Department of Medicine, Shri Ganga Ram Hospital said, “Dengue situation has worsened this year as compared to last year.

“Last year, people were careful as there were COVID-19 restrictions. This year, the situation has worsened in the last four to five weeks. Delhi has over 1,500 dengue cases.”

“There is a type of ‘complicated dengue’ in which patients have high fever, bleeding complications, breathlessness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting etc. They are directly taken to the ICU as they require blood, oxygen support is,” she said.

Khosla said that some people get infected with dengue even without symptoms and their immunoglobulin G (IgG) tests show that they were infected with dengue in the past.

He said, “Some patients who become ill do not even know that they were infected with dengue in the past because people who become infected with ‘mild dengue’ do not have symptoms. Their IgG tests show that They were infected earlier as well.”

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Delhi government and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation regarding an action plan to control the dengue outbreak in Delhi.

The central government had helped nine states and union territories, including Delhi, with high caseloads of dengue, and sent high-level teams to support them in public health measures for its control and management.
