According to health officials, DENV-2, or strain D2, of the four serotypes of dengue virus, is causing a sudden increase in the number of cases and is also taking seriousness. In addition to being more toxic, experts believe the new strain can cause high-grade fever, vomiting, joint pain, altered sensorium and even lead to serious complications that result. Dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome can occur.
