Two cases of Kappa variant of Corona have been reported in Uttar Pradesh. Officials say that genome sequencing of 109 samples was done. In this this variant has been confirmed. However, such cases have come before. The travel history of people in whom this variant has been confirmed is being searched. The officials gave this information in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday.

In the genome sequencing done at KGMU, Lucknow, this variant was found in a sample of a 65-year-old patient living in Sant Kabir Nagar district. The patient died in June during treatment in Gorakhpur. According to the report, in 107 samples, the delta form revealed in the second wave of corona has been confirmed. Kappa variant of the virus was found in 2 samples. Both the variants are not new to the state, the statement said.

Cases of kappa variants have come before
This variant may be being described as more dangerous than Delta, but when asked about it, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said that Kappa form is not a new thing, many cases of this form have been reported in the past. So there is nothing to panic, it is a common form of corona virus and can be recovered from it.

KGMU PRO Dr. Sudhir Kumar says that the Kappa variant is not new. It already is. It does not require any special strategy. Its treatment and prevention measures are also no different.

The matter came to the fore in Gorakhpur
Earlier this variant was found in Gorakhpur. It is more dangerous than the delta variant. Samples of 61 patients admitted to Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Gorakhpur were sent to the Delhi-based Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) for testing. Reports of 30 of them have come. Of these, the kappa variant was confirmed in one.

Doctors are now fearing that Kappa also wreaked havoc during the second wave of corona in Gorakhpur. After this, the government has sought a detailed report from the BRD Medical College. Director General of Medical and Health Department Dr. DS Negi said that apart from the travel history of the patient, the information of family members, information about the people who came in contact with him is being collected. .

Kappa variant has been found in 30 countries

  • Dr. Amresh Singh, Head of the Department of Microbiology, BRD, said that Kappa variants have been found in 30 countries. The World Health Organization has called it a variant of concern, meaning there is a need to be more vigilant about it.
  • The kappa variant arose from the mutation of the B.1.617 variant, which is also responsible for the delta variant. There have been more than 12 mutations of B.1.617, of which two are important – E484Q and L452R. Hence this variant is also called double mutant. As it evolved, a new lineage of B.1.617 was created.
  • B.1.617.2 is known as the delta variant, which is believed to be responsible for the second wave of corona in India. Its other variant B.1.617.1 is called Kappa. This new variant was confirmed in India in October 2020.

27 patients found infected with delta variant in Gorakhpur
The report of genome sequencing of 30 patients with IGIB confirmed the delta variant in 27 patients. BRD Medical College has started matching these patients. Because the treatment of all the patients was going on in the Kovid ward here. The college administration is now trying to know how many patients have died in the delta variant and how many patients have recovered.

Active cases below 1800 in UP
