Indian Institute technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) recently announced a strategic collaboration with Deloitte for joint research and work in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). As part of this partnership, Deloitte will offer fellowship and work-study programs to IIT Roorkee students to work on AI and advanced analytics.
“IIT Roorkee’s collaboration with Deloitte is in sync with digital” India Mission of the Government of India, which aims to promote AI-enabled technologies in every sector including governance, banking, education and health etc. The collaboration will focus on a priority set of initiatives in the AI space through design and delivery. AI and Machine Learning certification courses to educate Deloitte employees. This partnership will boost AI fluency for aspiring students and the Indian community with online learning courses thus enabling digital empowerment of citizens and talent pool,” claims the press release by the institute.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration with Deloitte, IIT Roorkee Director, Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi said, “The coming together of IIT Roorkee and Deloitte will create new opportunities for both of us. Indeed, this partnership has the potential to strengthen India’s AI roadmap.”
In addition, IIT Roorkee has established the Mehta Family School for Data Science and Machine Learning which offers MTech in Data Science and MTech in Artificial Intelligence. It also offers PhD programs and will start offering full BTech in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence degree programs from the autumn 2022 semester. In addition, the school will provide minor specialization in the field of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence to all the students of the institute.

Manish Shrikhande, Dean SRIC – IIT Roorkee, said that other objectives of the institutes include supporting Make-in-India and Atma-Nirbhar Bharat initiative of the Government of India, which includes entrepreneurship and startups related to Artificial Intelligence and for Including creating a resource center.
