delhi weather update: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted a cloudy sky and a minimum temperature of 9.8 degrees Celsius in the national capital on Friday. The overall air quality remained in the very poor category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 373.

IMD said that the maximum temperature is expected to be 20 degree Celsius. The Meteorological Department said that from January 15, there is a possibility of cold wave conditions once again in different areas of Delhi and its neighboring states.

Even though an existing Western Disturbance and consequent strong surface winds have significantly improved fog conditions over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh, dense to very dense fog continues over East Uttar Pradesh and Bihar .

AQI remains in ‘very poor’ category

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the overall air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 373 (very poor) at 9 am. An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.

Shelter homes have opened for the homeless

Meanwhile, shelter homes welcomed the homeless at several places across Delhi. Known as ‘rain basera’, these houses have beds, blankets, snacks and enough space for the homeless. Amjad Khan, a resident of Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, thanked the government for opening the shelter home.

Nihal Hussain, the caretaker of the Lodhi Road-based night shelter, told ANI that we have proper arrangements for bed, breakfast, water and toilets for the needy people. “There are a total of eight caretakers, who are deployed in different shifts on a rotation basis,” he added.

Cold wave is expected to peak on January 15-16

As reported earlier, IMD scientists said, cold wave conditions are likely to re-emerge over northwest India and peak around January 15-16, with minimum temperatures falling after two days from January 12. is expected to happen.

Speaking to ANI on the upcoming cold wave conditions in North India, IMD Scientist Roy said, “At present, we have observed that the temperature has increased. This is now due to the Western Disturbance over the Northwest region.”

“We are expecting these Western Disturbances to move eastwards from tomorrow. Hence, after 48 hours the temperature will start falling. Similarly, there is a chance that cold wave will cover entire Northwest India from January 15 and 16 situation will emerge again.” said the IMD scientist.

On 14 January, the IMD predicted dense to very dense fog over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi; In different areas of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Dense fog is likely at isolated places over Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Odisha, while isolated areas of Bihar are likely to experience cold day conditions.
