The principal of Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College has been booked under the SC Act after an assistant professor (ad-hoc) accused him of torture, police said on Tuesday. A case has also been registered against some staff members of the college located in the northern campus, he said.

He said that in August 2020, the assistant professor was dismissed from the college, following which he filed a petition against the removal of the court and later the police, but his plea was not entertained. Later, he again asked the court to order an inquiry under section 356(3) of the criminal procedure case, which states that any magistrate empowered under section 190 may order such inquiry.

When this too did not go in her favour, the woman approached the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. “On the order of the Commission as well as its latest statement, where fresh facts for the offense were presented, a case was registered on Monday under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and an investigation was conducted. Sagar Singh Kalsi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) said. College principal Savita Rai said she was not aware of the developments. The complainant did not respond to PTI’s calls and texts.
