Delhi University releases admission policy for 2022-23, CUET mandatory

new Delhi: The admission policy for the 2022-23 academic year has been released by the University of Delhi.

According to Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, the merit will be decided on the basis of Common University Entrance Test (CUET 2022) scores, news agency PTI reported.

“Candidates will be able to appear in CUET in only those subjects which they have taken in class XII. The merit will also be calculated on the basis of only those combination of subjects in which the candidate has appeared in CUET exam.” Singh said.

Singh described the new admissions policy as a significant moment, stating that, with the exception of the School of Open Learning and the National Board of Collegiate Women’s Education, admission to all undergraduate programs would be through a common university entrance test.

”It is mandatory for all candidates to appear in CUET-2022, including those seeking admission to additional seats. The eligibility criteria will be decided on the basis of marks obtained in CUET,” he said.

According to Singh, for 50% of the seats specified for minority institutions, 85% will be the marks for admission in CUET, while the remaining 15% will be selected by the colleges.

He said that admission to 50% of the non-reserved seats will be on the basis of CUET only.

In minority colleges such as Jesus and Mary, St. Stephens and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa, 50% seats are earmarked for minority students.

According to Hanit Gandhi, Dean (Admissions), applicants will be allowed to take CUET only on those subjects which they had covered in class 12. He also added that the merit will be assessed only on the basis of the combination of subjects in which the candidates have appeared in CUET.

According to Gandhi, no one will be harmed by changing the stream.

CUET-2022 is divided into three sections. According to him, the first half is divided into two parts, with 13 languages in the first and 20 languages in the second.

“For admission to the University of Delhi, it is mandatory for the candidates to appear in at least one language, of these two parts combined. The second section of the entrance exam contains 27 domain-specific topics. The third section is based on general knowledge which will be only for admission to BA programmes,” Gandhi said.

She said that to get admission in most of the programs of Delhi University, an applicant has to choose at least three subjects from the second part, which includes domain-specific subjects.

The second section is divided into two lists, B1 and B2. Candidates should choose their subjects carefully so that more than one subject is not selected at the same time.

Gandhi said eligibility for admission to most BSc programs would be determined by physics, chemistry, mathematics or biology. He said that in CUET, students have to secure at least 30% marks in any one language.

To be enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts programme, a candidate will have to take an entrance test in any one language from Section One and any three subjects from Section Two. Merit will be decided on the basis of candidate’s performance in the same subject and language.

To get admission in BA (Hons) Economics, candidates have to appear in CUET Mathematics exam. According to Gandhi, eligibility for this will be assessed on the basis of marks obtained in the chosen language, mathematics and any two subjects.
