Delhi records 3,194 Covid-19 cases, no omicron cases for two days

even as COVID-19 Cases are increasing continuously, Delhi has not added any new omicron In the last two days, the cases have remained at 351. Meanwhile, Maharashtra has reported the highest number of omicron cases in the country with 510 out of the total 1,700 cases reported so far.

To be sure, it is likely that Delhi did not add any new oomicron cases on Sunday and Monday as genome sequencing tests are done in batches and bulk reports come every two to three days.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said last week that many of these omicron cases were detected in people without a history of international travel or contact with an international traveller, suggesting that community transmission may have occurred.

Keeping in mind the infection with high immunity, the government will start immunization of children in the age group of 15 to 18 years from today (Monday). Whereas, healthcare workers, frontline workers, and people over the age of 60 with co-morbidities – those who were the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine – will start receiving ‘precautionary’ or ‘booster’ doses from January 10 . ,

Meanwhile, the daily tally of Covid-19 cases in Delhi has gone up from less than 500 to over 3,000 in just five days. According to the daily health bulletin, 3,194 new cases of Kovid-19 were reported in the capital on Sunday.

The test positivity rate (TPR) reached 4.59 percent. With the positivity rate exceeding 2 per cent for two consecutive days, the Orange Alert or third level of restrictions should have been imposed as per the government’s Graded Action Response Plan.

Although restrictions have not been imposed since the first level because the Covid-19 cases operated by Omicron seem mild, most patients do not require hospitalization.

Of the 8395 active cases reported in Sunday’s bulletin, only 307 were admitted to hospitals. Even among 307, 59 were still awaiting their Covid-19 test reports and 10 were those who were suspected to be omicrons and were sent from the airport for isolation.

With the rise in Covid-19 cases, the government has set up step-down centers for isolation of such patients instead of using hospital beds.
