Delhi records 274 fresh Covid cases, zero deaths

According to data shared by the health department, Delhi recorded 274 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday, while the positivity rate stood at 0.58 per cent. There was no death in the national capital, in which 26,134 people have died so far.

With the fresh cases, the number of infections in the national capital rose to 18,61,463, as per the latest health bulletin. Before Saturday, Delhi had recorded zero fatalities on February 28 when the city reported 258 cases.

The number of COVID-19 tests conducted a day earlier stood at 47,652, the bulletin said. Delhi had reported 302 cases on Friday with a positivity rate of 0.63 per cent and four deaths.

There has been a decline in the number of daily cases in Delhi after touching a record high of 28,867 on January 13. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest during the third wave of the pandemic. Amid a drop in daily cases, the number of patients under home isolation has dropped significantly in the past few weeks.

The total number of home isolation cases stood at 12,312 on February 1 and fell to 1,005 on March 5. The number of containment zones fell gradually over this period, with the number of containment zones falling to 4,051 on March 5. As per the official data shared by the department.

The rise in COVID cases in Delhi during the third wave of the pandemic was largely due to the omicron version of the virus, which is highly transmitted. Hospitals in Delhi have 10,747 beds for Covid patients and 120 (1.12 per cent) of these are occupied.
