Delhi Police orders probe against police personnel who clicked photos with Sushil Kumar

The Delhi Police has launched an investigation after some photographs of his personnel’s photo session with wrestler Sushil Kumar, arrested for the murder of 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankhar, surfaced.

The murder accused was being shifted from Mandoli Jail to Tihar Jail when the candid photo op took place. In these pictures, Delhi Police personnel are also seen holding weapons. The leaked pictures reveal that Sushil Kumar has no regrets as he looks cheerful and is happy to get clicked.

A senior police officer told PTI, “A suo motu inquiry has been initiated in the matter and based on its outcome further action will be taken.”

The 3rd Battalion and Special Cell of Delhi Police is conducting its internal investigation as personnel of both the departments involved in clicking pictures with Sushil Kumar.

Kumar is facing charges of kidnapping, murder and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The Delhi High Court has extended his judicial custody till July 9 in connection with the murder of 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankhar at Chhatrasal Stadium. A non-bailable warrant was issued against Kumar and others in connection with the alleged murder of Dhankhar.

“Usually, in the case of undertrials, who are deemed to be at high risk, a dedicated team of personnel of the 3rd Battalion videographs the process and it is also used for educational purposes. A constraint is provided.”

On May 4, an incident of brawl between wrestlers came to light, in which some wrestlers were injured and had to be hospitalised. One of them, Sagar, died during treatment.
