Aakash Chopra rated the performance of Indian players, 2/10 to Cheteshwar Pujara

India suffered an eight-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the WTC final. Since then, many people, including skipper Virat Kohli, have advocated for changes in the team to help the team perform better. The batsmen struggled to score some runs while the bowlers seemed to miss the trick when it mattered the most.

Former India batsman and broadcaster Aakash Chopra reviewed the players’ performance in the final and was not happy with the way Cheteshwar Pujara, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja played. “I will give 6/10 to Rohit. He started in both innings. I would say the glass is half full as Rohit saw the new ball in both the innings, which was the toughest thing in the army countries. He was opening for the first time in Test cricket in England, never underestimate what Rohit Sharma has done.”

“Shubman Gill helped Rohit Sharma in the first innings but got out early in the second innings. Just 4/10, I was thinking 3 or 3.5 but four because he caught Ross Taylor diving to his right.”

“Cheteshwar Pujara, one he dropped a catch at slips, not that it would have made any difference to the match. With his batting in both the innings, you can expect more runs from Cheteshwar. In this game, I’m going 2/10.”

“Virat Kohli 5/10 for the simple reason that the first innings was good but more was expected of him in the second innings. You will compare Kohli to Kane and Kane worked in both the innings.

Ajinkya Rahane scored 49 runs in the first innings. He got out after playing a bad shot. You could say he was unlucky in the second innings but he never looked comfortable. I gave him 5/10.”

“Pant is also 5/10. He scored 41 runs in the second innings but even the most promising student is going to be scolded. The way he got out, there will always be careless and careless debates. I was expecting more from Pant.”

“Jadeja 3/10. You are batting at number seven. There were more expectations from your batting in both the innings, more in the second innings. You took a wicket while bowling, there was a high expectation of wickets in the second innings as well.”

“Ravichandran Ashwin 6/10. He did fine with the ball. He broke the opening partnership in the first innings, took two wickets in the second innings, got us two wickets. He scored 21 in the first innings but played a bad shot in the second innings. “

“Shami gets 7/10. Shami bowled well, he was going to bring you back in the match. He took four wickets and in good fashion. Ishant Sharma gets 6/10. I expected more from him in the second innings, I thought he was brilliant in the first innings.”

“Bumrah is just 3/10. In the second innings, a catch was missed on his ball but nothing like this happened in the first innings. Jasprit Bumrah going without a wicket in a Test match doesn’t happen very often but it has happened in this match,” concluded Chopra.
