Justice DK Sharma asked the counsel for the Delhi Police to provide a copy of his petition to Tharoor’s counsel, who claimed that the petition was not served to him and it was “deliberately” sent to a wrong email ID.

The city police on Thursday approached the Delhi High Court challenging the trial court’s 2021 order on Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in the death case of his wife Sunanda Pushkar.

Justice DK Sharma asked the counsel for the Delhi Police to provide a copy of his petition to Tharoor’s counsel, who claimed that the petition was not served to him and it was “deliberately” sent to a wrong email ID.

The high court also issued notice and sought Tharoor’s reply on the police’s plea to condone the delay in filing a revision petition against the lower court’s August 18, 2021 order.

It also directed that copies and documents relating to the case shall not be provided to any person except the parties.

The High Court listed the matter for further hearing on February 7, 2023.

Tharoor was absolved of charges in the case more than seven years after the businessman was found dead in a luxury hotel in Pushkar.

Pushkar, a prominent face in Delhi circles, was found dead in a luxury hotel suite on the night of January 17, 2014. The couple was staying at the hotel as Tharoor’s official bungalow was being renovated at the time.

Tharoor was charged under IPC provisions related to cruelty and abetment to suicide, but was not arrested in the case.

The Congress leader’s lawyer said there was no evidence against him in the case.
