Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana chairs inter-state coordination meeting ahead of Independence Day

Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Wednesday chaired an inter-state coordination meeting to strengthen cooperation and address issues in preparation for the Independence Day- 2021 celebrations. The meeting was attended by top officials from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Chandigarh and Jammu and Kashmir, as well as senior officers of Delhi Police and District DCSPs, who attended through video conferencing. The officers who physically attended the meeting included Additional DGP/Meerut (UP), ADG/Rohtak (Haryana), CP/Noida, CP/Gurugram, IGP/Rewari and DIG/Uttarakhand.

The objective of the meeting was to share intelligence and inputs related to terrorism and take necessary measures for the Independence Day celebrations and to consider plans for major coordinated action between states in the areas of policing, which has implications for the national capital.

Addressing the officers, Asthana said that good cooperation between the police forces of the country is the key to resolution of all issues. He appreciated the cooperation extended by the neighboring state police and other states to the Delhi Police in crime control and crackdown on criminals.

While laying down an action plan for immediate target and long term target, CP, Delhi has taken preventive measures like tenant verification, hotel/guest house checking and anti-terrorist vigil etc. to identify and counter any nefarious designs. Emphasis on intensive campaign. , and strong border check actions to curb the movement of arms, criminals and narcotics in the national capital.

Mr Asthana said that in the long run, there is a need to initiate concerted and coordinated action on inter-state crimes, especially gun wielding and drug supply, which are becoming a huge threat, and cyber crimes that defraud a large number of innocent civilians. For this interstate cooperation should be expanded.

The officials exchanged information about the need to launch a concerted campaign on verification and border checks of anti-social elements and tenants taking refuge in NCR. The need to monitor the movement of paragliders, drones and other flying objects from open areas on the day of the ceremony was discussed and it was agreed to share advance information about the movement of any suspicious elements. Discussions were also held on sharing of information about inter-state gangs operating in NCR and taking action on issues related to supply of illegal arms and narcotics.

Traffic restrictions during Independence Day celebrations and steps to prevent unauthorized infiltration across borders have been planned in advance and officials of border states have pledged to cooperate for their smooth implementation.

The meeting ended with a proposal to enhance coordination in policing in the NCR region with emphasis on one-to-one interactions at all levels to provide a more secure environment to the citizens of Delhi and neighboring states.
