Delhi: No new Covid case reported in a day, first time since pandemic began

For the first time since March 2020, the national capital reported no new Covid cases on Monday. Delhi recorded its first coronavirus case on March 2, 2020 and has registered a total of 20,07,313 cases with a cumulative positivity rate of 4.94 per cent and 26,522 pandemic-related deaths so far. Seven states including Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have reported more Covid cases than Delhi.

The national capital has faced three Covid waves so far, with the second wave driven by the Delta variant in April-May 2021 being the deadliest. Over two months, hospitals and patients’ family members struggled for oxygen and doctors were overburdened. In the third wave, driven by the infectious Omicron variant, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in Delhi touched a record high of 28,867 on January 13. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14, the highest ever. ,

As per the data shared here by the city health department, the number of active cases is just 10. The bulletin of the health department said that 931 tests were conducted on the previous day. The city registered just one new case on Sunday with a positivity rate of 0.05 per cent. It saw three new Covid cases on Saturday with a positivity rate of 0.10 per cent and six new cases on Friday with 0.41 per cent people testing positive.

Currently only 13 of the 8,295 beds in dedicated COVID-19 hospitals in the city are occupied. Of these, 12 are suspected cases of Kovid. Nine patients are in home isolation.
