Delhi MLAs Get 66 Per Cent Salary Hike; Know How Much They Will Draw Now

New Delhi: The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government has issued a notification according to which the salaries and allowances of Delhi MLAs will be increased by around 66 per cent. According to reports, President Draupadi Murmu has also approved the proposal sent by the Kejriwal government to increase the salaries and allowances of the MLAs of Delhi.

How much salary will an MLA of Delhi get now?


As per the notification, an MLA who used to get a total monthly salary of Rs 54,000 will now get around Rs 90,000. His monthly basic pay has been increased from Rs 12,000 to Rs 30,000. His constituency allowance has been increased from Rs 18,000 to Rs 25,000, while the conveyance allowance has been increased from Rs 6,000 to Rs 10,000. The telephone allowance has been increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, while the secretariat allowance has been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000.

The total salary of Ministers, Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip and Leader of Opposition has been increased from Rs 72,000 to Rs 1.70 lakh per month. His monthly basic pay has been increased to Rs 60,000 from the existing Rs 20,000.

His constituency allowance has been increased from Rs 18,000 to Rs 30,000, hospitality allowance from Rs 4,000 to Rs 10,000 and daily allowance from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500. They will also get secretarial assistance of Rs 25,000.

Apart from this, they will also get reimbursement of up to Rs 1 lakh for annual travel with family, which was earlier Rs 50,000. Rent-free furnished accommodation of Rs 20,000 per month, free use of a car with driver or Rs 10,000 monthly as conveyance allowance (earlier Rs 2,000), and free medical treatment.

In July last year, the Delhi Assembly passed bills related to increasing the salaries of Delhi MLAs, who were considered among the lowest paid lawmakers in the country. Five separate bills were introduced to increase the salaries of ministers, MLAs, chiefs. whip, the speaker and deputy speaker, and the leader of the opposition in the assembly, which were passed by the members. After being passed by the Legislative Assembly, the Bills are sent for the assent of the President.

The Department of Law, Justice and Legislative Affairs issued the notification on March 9 after the assent of the President.
