Shraddha Walker Murder Case: A police van carrying Shraddha Walker murder accused Aftab Poonawalla was attacked with swords outside the Forensic Science Laboratory in Rohini where he was taken for a polygraph test on Monday. The assailants brandished swords at the police personnel but the police personnel present in the vehicle in self-defence pointed guns at them and overpowered them. He took the accused into custody.

In the evening, a car overtook the police van and stopped it. He said some people got out of the car and started attacking the van carrying Poonawalla.

Police said the van was removed from the spot while the two attackers were taken into custody. The incident took place around 6.45 pm.

In a video of the purported incident going viral on social media, a policeman can be seen taking out his service revolver to disperse the sword-wielding attackers.

In a clip, some of the assailants claimed that they belonged to a right-wing group and that they intended to avenge the killing of Shraddha Walker by dismembering Poonawalla.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) GS Sidhu said, “Two people have been detained for questioning.”

According to the police, both the people taken into custody have been identified as Kuldeep and Nigam. Further legal action will be taken as per the law, he said.

Reacting to the incident, Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta said, “Whatever these activists have done is reacting to their personal sentiments. The whole country came to know how Poonawalla killed a Hindu girl.” chopped into pieces.”

He said, “The organization does not support any such act which is against the Constitution of India. We believe in the rule of law.”

It is being told that the policemen deployed for the security of the van had to fire in the air in defence.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police on Monday recovered some weapons which were used to cut Shraddha Walker’s body. Sources said the police have also recovered Shraddha’s ring which Aftab had gifted to another girl at his flat soon after the murder. In May this year, 27-year-old Walker was allegedly murdered by Poonawalla in Delhi.

He allegedly strangled Walker and cut her body into 35 pieces, which he kept in a refrigerator at his residence in south Delhi’s Mehrauli area for nearly three weeks and dumped across the city in the middle of the night for several days.

A Delhi Police team, which is probing the murder case, on Thursday searched a mobile phone at Bhayandar Creek near Mumbai, an official said. The searches were conducted with the help of Mira-Bhayander-Vasai-Virar police personnel, he said.

The national capital’s police team is camping in Vasai area near Mumbai, where Walker and her live-in partner and alleged killer Aftab Poonawalla have been for a week. The investigators also recorded the statements of Walker and Poonawalla’s friends, relatives and the owners of the flats they had rented.

He was arrested on 12 November and remanded to five days police custody, which was extended for a further five days on 17 November. On 22 November, he was sent to police custody for four days. On November 26, the court sent him to judicial custody for 13 days.
