In a major relief to Delhi-Meerut commuters, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety has approved the operation of RAPIDEX on the priority section. As informed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on Twitter, a 17 km long priority section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor has been approved by the CMRS. The semi-high-speed regional rail service named ‘RAPIDX’ by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), a joint venture company of the Center with the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

“Over the last one year, more than one independent safety evaluator has rigorously examined the procedures deployed by the NCRTC for implementing the transit infrastructure project. Thus, the system has been thoroughly examined and only after approval, It has received approval from the Ministry of Railways and CMRS (Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety),” said NCRTC officials.

NCRTC aims to open the entire 82 km long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut section to the public by 2025. The urban-transport network is the first of its kind in the country and will be extended to corridors like Delhi-Alwar, Delhi-Panipat. among others in the years to come.

“With these approvals, the priority section of #RRTS becomes the first railway system in the country to be opened for operations along its entire length at a maximum operating speed of 160 kmph,” NCRTC said on Twitter.
