Delhi MCD Polls: NOTA votes rise by 8,300 in municipal elections this year

The data also suggested that the votes cast for NOTA are higher than the votes cast for several smaller political parties such as the Nationalist Congress Party, Janata Dal (United) or the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

While NCP got a total of 14,890 votes (vote share of 0.20%), AIMIM made it slightly bigger by getting 45,628 votes (0.68%). Meanwhile, the Janata Dal (United) had to settle with 11,480 votes (0.16%).

In 2017, elections were held for all the three municipal corporations. In these elections, NOTA votes (19,762, or 0.74% of the vote) were cast mainly in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation election. Further, in the South Delhi civic body, NOTA votes were polled around 19,190 or 0.71%.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged as the victorious party in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections on Wednesday by winning 134 seats. After the victory, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his gratitude and sought blessings from PM Modi to improve civic amenities here. Addressing party workers, Kejriwal said, “Will try to live up to people’s expectations, urge parties to come together to make Delhi better.”
