Delhi: Man Dies After Jumping in Front of Moving Metro in Suspected Suicide

New DelhiA “mentally ill” man allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train on Sunday at Mayur Vihar-1 Metro station on the Blue Line in East Delhi. Ajay Laxman Pakhale, former senior manager of Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), jumped from platform number one of the station. 1, he said.

Official sources said there was a “slight delay” in Metro services due to the incident, affecting other trains on the corridor.

However, a passenger who requested anonymity said, “I boarded the train at around 1.50 pm from Noida Sector 18 station to Rajiv Chowk station, but it got stuck at the next station, Noida Sector 16.

The passenger said, “After a few minutes, it was announced that the train would not proceed further. All the passengers got off the train and it returned to Noida. For the next 20-25 minutes no train came.”

Police said that earlier in the day, the station controller of Mayur Vihar-1 metro station got a call that a person had jumped in front of a moving train.

The victim was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Later, his father and sister were informed, a senior police officer said.

He said during interrogation it was revealed that the man was “mentally ill” and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.

He said, “During the analysis of CCTV footage, it was found that the man jumped from platform number 1 of Mayur Vihar-1 Metro station at 1:51 pm. Further inquiries are underway and inquiry proceedings have been initiated.” ” ,

Pakhale did his M Tech from IIT-Kanpur and worked with the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for four years. He then joined GAIL as a senior manager, but resigned in November 2022, police said.
