New Delhi: Delhi Police A 63-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly selling church property worth over Rs 50 crore in the capital, officials said on Saturday.
He said that the accused has been identified as Shoral Bobby Das, a resident of Civil Lines, Banda, Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that a case has been registered in this regard on the complaint of Sulochana Prakash, President of Women’s Christian Temperance of India.
Prakash said that the woman Christian of India is a de facto owner of the property at Temperance 24, Raipur Road, New Delhi, he said.
A senior police officer said that he alleged that Ramesh Chander Agarwal prepared false and fabricated documents regarding the property with the connivance of Sunil Kumar and Ajay Gupta, who claimed to be its owners.
He said that his institution never sold or transferred any part of the property to the Indian Church Trustee (ICT) or anyone else, police said.
A case was registered on 14 July 2007 under relevant sections of the IPC. He said the role of Das and co-accused John Augustine had come to the fore during the investigation.
“A General Power of Attorney (GPA) dated 6 April 2005 was executed by Augustine in favor of Das, who was made the Attorney-holder of all movable and immovable properties of the ICT, Church of India and CIPBC in the Province of India. ,” said the officer.
Police said Augustine, who was the chairman of the Indian Church Trustees, executed the GPA in Das’s favour, giving him the right to manage all the assets of the Indian Church Trustees.
Das was a secretary in Augustine’s organization. On July 29, 2005, Das executed GPA in favor of co-accused Ramesh Agarwal, who executed three sale deeds on November 18, 2005 in the name of co-accused Sunil Kumar.
It has also come to notice that the President of the Indian Church Trustees, Kolkata, CNI Delhi, CNI Lucknow and CNI Kolkata pointed out that Augustine never held the position of the President of the Indian Church Trustees nor the post of Metropolitan.
Police said that Augustine was never given any authority or authority to manage the church or church property, hence the GPA executed by Augustine in favor of Das and further execution of the GPA in favor of Ramesh Agarwal, was null and void. , said the police.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that Das was absconding after the arrest of Augustine. Later, Das was arrested from Banda on Thursday,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (EOW) RK Singh.
Police said the accused had hatched a conspiracy to sell 1.27 acres of church land and assets worth over Rs 50 crore at 24 Rajpur Road.
