In a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sisodia said it would not be easy for the Delhi government to spend an additional Rs 927 crore from its limited resources for preparations for the G20 summit.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday sought a grant of Rs 927 crore from the Center for carrying out special development work for the G20 summit in the national capital.

In a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Sisodia said it would not be easy for the Delhi government to spend an additional Rs 927 crore from its limited resources for preparations for the G20 summit.

Sisodia, who also holds the finance portfolio, said the Delhi government would extend all cooperation to the Center for the successful hosting of the G20 summit.

India assumed the chairmanship of the influential bloc G20 at its annual summit in Bali in November last year, with an effort to ensure that the grouping continues to conceive new ideas and accelerate collective action to tackle pressing challenges. Acts as a global prime mover.

India is hosting several events and meetings ahead of the G20 summit later this year.

Sisodia wrote in the letter, “Considering the importance of the G20 summit and for the successful conduct of the G20 related events in Delhi, I request you to provide the requisite Rs 927 crore from the central government.” ,

He said that this would go a long way in ensuring that various events and functions of the Delhi government go on smoothly and preparations are completed on time.

More than 200 meetings will be held across 55 locations in the country in the run-up to the G20 summit on September 9-10.

The departments of Delhi government have drawn up a plan for infrastructure development and various activities and programs in the city. He said these include beautification work around the G20 summit venues and hosting of various activities and events at prominent places in the city.

Sisodia claimed that the Center is not paying anything to Delhi as its share in central taxes and has not given any additional grant to the city government.

He alleged that even the funds being given to the municipal bodies in the states according to their population are not being made available to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Sisodia said that hosting the G20 summit is a matter of pride for Delhi.

He said, “The entire Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will make efforts to ensure that foreign guests coming here during the G20 summit do not face any kind of trouble.”
