Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS: India’s First Rapid Rail Named RAPIDX, Announces NCRTC

India’s first rapid rail transit system, earlier known as RRTS trains, running between Delhi and Meerut has been named ‘RapidX’, NCRTC announced. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the nodal body for developing the fastest urban metro transport system, on Tuesday announced that the country’s first semi-high-speed regional rail services will be named ‘RAPIDX’. As per the official statement of NCRTC, the brand name – RAPIDEX is easy to read and easy to pronounce in different languages, reported ANI.

Moreover, the name ‘Rapid’ has already been adopted and preferred by the citizens of the entire region as their transit system in both Hindi and English languages. NCRTC said, “Apart from denoting speed and progress, the X in the name signifies next-generation technology and new-age mobility solutions. It also represents youth, optimism and energy.”

NCRTC also added that the symbol of a green leaf is a highlight of the brand’s commitment towards decarbonisation of the NCR by not only reducing the number of vehicles on the road but also through the use of green energy. These services will run on Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors, which are being implemented to connect major urban nodes in the National Capital Region (NCR).

RapidX services on the first RRTS corridor, Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut, will serve this 82 km long corridor and will significantly reduce the travel time between Delhi and Meerut. The 17 km priority corridor between Sahibabad and Duhai is expected to be commissioned from this month itself. NCRTC has set a target of opening the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor to the public by 2025.
