Delhi Flood: Heavy Good Vehicles Entry Restricted, Water Hits Major Roads

Delhi Flood: In view of the flood-like situation in the national capital, the Delhi government on Thursday issued an order banning the entry of heavy goods vehicles and interstate buses into the city.

The water level of Yamuna was recorded at 208.62 meters at 1 pm on Thursday due to the release of water into the river from Hathinikund barrage in Haryana. At present the water level is three meters above the danger mark.

As per the order dated July 13, 2023, in view of the abnormally rising water level of river Yamuna, which has crossed the danger level and is posing a threat of flooding in some parts of Delhi.

It states, “Considering the urgency of the situation, following the provisions of Section 115 MV Act 1988, it is ordered that the restrictions on entry of heavy goods vehicles from Singhu Border, Badarpur Border, Loni Border and Chilla Border has been installed.” ,

“In addition, interstate buses from Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand terminating at ISBT Kashmiri Gate will terminate at Singhu border,” the order said.

The order further said, these instructions shall not be applicable to trucks carrying essential commodities i.e. medicines, raw vegetables, fruits, grains, milk, eggs, ice etc. which are used as tankers carrying food items and petroleum products. Meanwhile, while addressing the media, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “I would like to request people not to step out if it is not necessary and work from home. We have closed schools in the affected areas. We are also trying to provide all facilities in relief camps… As per CWC (Central Water Commission) prediction, (water level of Yamuna river) will peak by 3-4 pm today and then go down will begin.

Due to the rising water level of the Yamuna river, several parts of the national capital were submerged, including Math Bazar, Yamuna Bazar, Garhi Mandu, Geeta Ghat, Vishwakarma Colony, Khadda Colony, areas around Neeli Chhatri Temple near Old Railway Bridge, Neem Karoli Gaushala and Ring Road from Wazirabad to Majnu Ka Tila.
