Delhi Covid Surge: DDMA says no fresh restrictions in Delhi for now. ‘Yellow Alert’ to continue

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing increase in the number of daily COVID-19 cases and the fear of Omicron, no further restrictions have been imposed by the authorities. According to reports, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided not to impose any new restrictions in view of the increasing cases of coronavirus.

The decision was taken in a virtual review meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal which was also attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

During the meeting, it was decided that the existing restrictions under ‘Yellow Alert’ in the national capital would continue for now.

According to sources, “The officials decided that ‘amber alert’ will not be imposed for the time being and the government will remain in wait and watch mode. Further restrictions will be imposed in Delhi hospitals keeping in mind the bed occupancy in the next meeting.” told news agency ANI for the development.

Delhi recorded 238 cases of the newly detected Omron variant on Wednesday. A day earlier, 165 cases of new mutants were reported.

The national capital on Tuesday registered a massive spike in daily COVID-19 cases with 496 fresh cases, the highest since June 4, while the positivity rate also rose to 0.89 per cent with one death.

Kejriwal had declared a “yellow alert” in Delhi, under which schools, colleges, cinemas and gyms would remain closed. Yellow alert is sounded when the COVID-19 positivity rate remains above 0.50 percent for two consecutive days.

Non-essential goods shops will open on odd-even basis and metro trains and buses will run with 50 per cent seating capacity in the city.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said, “Cases have increased but there has been no increase in oxygen consumption or ventilator use. Most of the patients are recovering without hospitalization as they have mild or no symptoms.” “

He also said that many international passengers, who have tested negative at the airport, are testing positive after a few days and infecting their family members during this period.

The Delhi government has also said that it is unfortunate that people were visiting markets and malls without masks and appealed to them to follow COVID-appropriate behaviour.
