Kejriwal said that Chandni Chowk has become more beautiful after the redevelopment.

“It has already become an important tourist destination. I have come to know that people come here till 12 o’clock, street food joints will be allowed to open for 3-4 hours and till 12 o’clock so that people can come and enjoy here at night.

Addressing the gathering near Fountain Chowk in Chandni Chowk’s main market, he said, “A lot of street food joints will be opened after the market is closed.”

The Delhi Chief Minister further said that Chandni Chowk has now become beautiful and aesthetically appealing, adding that earlier broken roads, hanging wires and traffic congestion were synonymous with the area.

“We have beautified the around 1.4 km long stretch of Chandni Chowk market and made it very beautiful. Traffic on the section was rectified, hanging wires were made underground, CCTVs were installed as part of the redevelopment project,” he said, PTI reported.

The main Chandni Chowk section between Red Fort and Fatehpuri Masjid crossing has been improved and beautified in the redevelopment project, which was to be inaugurated on April 17 this year but was canceled due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This section has been made a “no traffic zone” for motor vehicles between 9 am and 9 pm.

Public Works Department (PWD) officials said work on the project, which was approved in August 2018, began in December the same year.
